[Economic Security Indicators – March 2026] National Economic Perception Index Drops by Largest Percentage on Record
The national economic perception index, which hit an all-time high last month, fell by the largest margin on record and returned to the level of last December. The household economic perception index also dropped sharply, recording its lowest figure since April of last year. This is interpreted as the U.S.-Iran war having a negative impact on perceptions of the national and household economies.

The household economy, national economy, and national security perception indices all declined compared to the previous survey. In particular, the outlook for the future worsened even more than the assessment of the current situation, resulting in the household economic outlook falling below zero for the first time since the current administration took office.
